winter holiday in the hot summer

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

Some friends of mine hung these up during the winter holidays and they liked it so much, they kept it that way.  Nice reminder of cooler weather during these hot hot summer days.

Marfa scenes

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Marfa is a unique art town in the middle of West Texas.  Seemed like every time I turned around, there was something else to photograph.

Beautiful botanical

What a beautiful botanical.  I don’t know what it is…but I like it.

Cafe De Stijl in San Francisco is one of my favorites

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Cafe de Stijl is tucked away, the service can be awful slow and the parking is through the roof expensive.  Yet, I always go there when I’m in San Francisco because of the big bowls of lattes (reminds me of my morning coffee when I lived in France) and the artsy furniture.  I keep forgetting who makes the furniture but I promised myself that one day I would commission the artist to make some for me.

I also liked their steamed eggs.  As for the slowness, I just take it in stride and pretend that I’m really in a European bistro.

Update.  Artist found!  Randy Castellon.  He’s a genius, check out many of his projects his gallery.  Thanks to another talented designer, Nilus De Matran of Nilus Designs for letting me know!

twig and pinecone garland

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Garlands are cool!  Really, how simple to make something from twine and gathered twigs and pinecones, then use it to decorate.  Watch out Martha Stewart, I have oodles more ideas like this.

best bathroom floor ever

This bathroom floor made me happy.  From Kris and Claude’s house in Mar Vista.

ding, I had an idea

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Yeah, I do like lightbulbs.  And koi fish.  And coffee cups.  Oh and today’s word (in my bathroom) was “lunch”.  A very good word. Anything having to do with food is good.

Art in my house.

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Art in my house or, a funny little game that I made up. I have an old coffee jar in my bathroom.  I printed out a bunch of words that I like on old scraps of paper that I couldn’t bear to throw away (pack rat or recycler, you decide).

Every morning, I dig through it and pull out a new word and place it in front.  Yesterday it was “happenstance”.  Great word, eh?  But “bucolic”…that one just rolls off the tongue and I had to photograph it.  Nice diversion when you’re doing bathroom time.  I can’t believe that I’m actually divulging that, but hey, I like to prettify all aspects of life, even bathroom time.

Art in a Texas back yard.

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

There’s just something perfect about this back yard sculpture.  Okay, so it’s a tin can on a pipe.  Not sure what it’s for, but I like it.

Art on the roof of SF MOMA

Monday, July 19th, 2010

It’s art and it’s in the roof garden of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.  I like that it’s a bit tricky to figure out things spatially.  I kept waiting for no people to be in my shot, but I think it’s better with the people.  So there!
