at the laundromat

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

If you have to do laundry on a road trip, why not have some fun?  We sure did!  First, find yourself an authentic Econ-O-Wash.  Then, load in some film into your camera to be cross processed.  I loved being rolled around in the clothes cart (especially since I had a sprained ankle…it’s so hard to take photos when you’re not ambulatory).  Check out Mary…embracing her Downy softener sheets.I think Bob is the only one actually doing laundry.

tiki bar on Hollywood Boardwalk

Sunday, March 4th, 2012

We biked the Hollywood Boardwalk, periodically stopping for mai tais and daiquiris at the pink tiki bar.  I was using up some old slide film, cross-processing in development.  Super funky…

Cocoanut Grove

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

Today would have been (and for me it still is) my mom and dad’s wedding anniversary. Here’s a fun flashback of them at the Cocoanut Grove in Los Angeles, 1965.

how to make a snow bunny

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

I received a request for a snow bunny while I was in Colorado taking care of my father-in-law after his heart surgery. I haven’t made a snow bunny before, but here it is:

I carved the ears out of the snow crust because the snow was not sticking together.  Snow quality is something I sort of remember from growing up in Idaho, although the last time I made a snowman was probably over 25 years ago!

The day before, when I tried to make a snow bunny, I could only make a really fat cat.  I also could make a pyramid and possibly Jabba the Hut.  Such a repertoire.  I should quit my day job and make a go of it as a professional snow artist, right

how to operate a snow blower

Friday, February 10th, 2012

Going from Grandma Mary’s place in sunny Florida to Joel and Bridget’s driveway in snowy Colorado. There was a month between these two trips, but I thought it was fun to put them side by side on the blog.
Growing up in Idaho, I know my way around some snow, but I had never used a snow blower before.
Apparently the key is to NOT put your fingers near the business end of the snow blower.
Noah told me this.  He told me to google “Joe Sakic snowblower”.
I’m not doing that, no way.  I don’t need any gory visual aids.
And why does a hockey player raised in Canada not know his own snow tools?

kissing from the heart

Saturday, January 21st, 2012

Major Cheesy here!  Noah and I were house hunting and came across this very heart-shaped mirror in a very pink bathroom.  Noah is putting up with the ultra-romantic cheesiness.  I Heart Noah!

Happy New Year from Austin Texas

Sunday, January 1st, 2012

Happy New Year from me to y’all.  How much more Austin, Texas can I get than riding my favorite longhorn in front of the capitol building?  In case you’re rubbing your eyes (you may have had a long night, Jan 1 and all), so yes, this really happened!  It’s not a fake, it’s not photoshopped, not in the slightest.
