Sunday, August 21st, 2011Thanksgiving entertainment
Saturday, August 13th, 2011At Thanksgiving, after we ate/slurped my un-elegant but very consummable gelatin dessert, we began to pull out the vinyl. Jim’s daughter Kendra, being of a different generation was clearly perplexed by Loverboy’s “Working for the Weekend”. I like to think we were educating her in the finer moments of musical history that she might previously not had the full pleasure of being exposed to. Perhaps it was our drunken state, but we thought it was brilliant and we sang along at full volume.
Then we thought of something even more brilliant. Let’s give Noah a haircut! A fantastic Thanksgiving tradition, just like the Pilgrims did.
We set up outside, with our devoted audience inside.
I’m not allowed to cut Noah’s hair, due to an incident way back in 1994, so Alina did the honors.
A request was made for a mohawk, which we obliged for about 10 minutes.
Then we finished the full buzzcut and went back inside to normal Thanksgiving activities like more eating, more drinking and lots of laughs.
Nice to remember good times like this in the heat waves of August
Thanksgiving in August
Friday, August 12th, 2011Ok, so they do Christmas in July, why not Thanksgiving in August?
Not the real deal, just a recap of that day last November when life was all about great friends and great food.
Alina brought her European flair to the appetizers and desserts. She made Chambourge Candied Lemon Nutella Pie AND Black Pepper Whisky Drunken Pie. Did I eat both? You bet!
It’s weird to see us all bundled up when it’s so hot outside right now.
We ate some yummy comfort food to keep warm, and then there was some drinking too.
“We” being yours truly, hubby Noah, Jenn, Jim and daughter Kendra, Lea, Nate and Alina.
On the menu:
- cajun duck breast
- sausage fat roasted squash
- a big salad (to be sensible)
I bought a Jamie Oliver cookbook years ago because of one photo and I finally decided to make the recipe. It was an Elderflower liqueur and summer berry gelatin extravaganza, all in a giant jello mold. Really, it was actually just fancy, high falutin’ jello shots.
tap dancing for fun
Tuesday, July 26th, 2011Tap dancing for fun and diversion.
So it all started when I spilled jasmine tea on my keyboard.
It’s been super duper hot here and I’ve been stuck indoors.
That’s okay, because I’m editing a gazillion amazing weddings, and the only place to do that is indoors.
To help me along, I drink a lot of green tea. I had to give up coffee, so now tea is my last remaining vice.
Then as mentioned, I spilled the tea, on the keyboard.
Then the “a” stopped working and I was forced to dig out the previous keyboard.
Klunky, noisy keyboard. Hard to type. My fingers were getting quite the workout.
Then I called my social media consultant for our regularly scheduled meeting and she asked me if I was tap dancing during our call.
Then someone else said the same thing later that day.
Then I was getting a bit stir crazy and that’s when I decided to do some tap dancing for real.
Supply your own soundtrack.
Thanks to the hubby for capturing this real life moment.
yep, it’s today

Thursday, June 9th, 2011Hall and Oates Makes My Dreams Come True
Monday, May 16th, 2011Hall and Oates, a guilty pleasure of mine. My early forays into music as a tween included “You Make My Dreams Come True” and “I Can’t Go For That”. I may have even owned one of their albums. Yeah, I’m copping to that. Sometimes I just have to sigh (and accept) my dorky past.
So, how fun for me to stumble on a Hall and Oates coloring contest at Homeslice Pizza? Some of the entries were, um, imaginative. I think I guffawed out loud. And then I had to go home and create a Hall and Oates station in Pandora.
Folly Beach bungalow
Wednesday, April 13th, 2011We stayed in the cutest beach cottage while visiting Charleston to shoot a wedding. We were out on Folly Beach, aka “The Edge of America”. The bungalow had a quirky seashore theme. Sometimes it can be too kitschy, but this was perfect. A bit of surfing tchotkes, a bit of Hawaiiana. Plus corrugated tin covering the bathroom walls, blue and white checker linoleum and boomerang patterned countertops. And yes, there were a lot of seashells. Out on the beach and at the bungalow. If you want a great place to stay, email me and I’m happy to steer you to this sweet little home.
