Lavender and blue dilly dilly

Thursday, April 24th, 2014

Carats and Cake was wowed by the color palette of Katherine and Benjamin’s Yountville wedding. What could better sum up this pretty wedding than lavender and blue, dilly dilly. I confess, I just like saying dilly dilly. And for some reason, I think Paxton, the ringbearer, wearing a snazzy blue bowtie, would say dilly dilly too!

Modern Indian wedding and Easter Egg hunt

Monday, April 7th, 2014

Nisha and Pablo are both architects living in New York City. Style Me Pretty loved the personal touches of this wedding and it’s being featured today.   If  you are looking for a unique, sophisticated, clean design for your wedding, read on!

Nisha and Pablo added contemporary design touches to the backdrop of the classic 1920s Spanish Italianate architecture of Laguna Gloria.  The table centerpieces and cocktail hour florals were succulents in vases made of gray concrete, dipped in paint in the color of Yves Klein blue.  Yes, officially it was that exact color!  The table linens were cinder gray linen, with table cards that were colorful NYC subway symbols for the various subway lines that are special to Nisha and Pablo.

The wedding was on Easter Sunday, so Nisha and Pablo had a great idea to have eggs were hidden around the grounds.  Their nieces and nephews had a blast scooping up the eggs and finding the surprises inside.  I loved this special touch, such a great treat for the kids.  Also, Nisha’s brother got a little mustache on his hand which made for a fun portrait of Pablo’s niece!

a zaffa at a summer wedding at Brooklyn Botanical Garden

Wednesday, March 26th, 2014

The Bride’s Cafe is featuring Emma and Kareem’s summer wedding that we photographed at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.  After a serene outdoor ceremony under a giant willow tree, the celebration moved into the Palm House.  To kick it up a notch and to honor Kareem’s Egyptian heritage, a zaffa was planned.

What is a zaffa?  It’s the best! An über enthusiastic wedding march for the bride and groom’s big entrance.  It includes musicians, belly dancers, limbo dancing under a cane, tossing the groom in the air, clapping and dancing on the part of all the wedding guests and lots of coin throwing…special coins that flutter through the air…I kept finding them in my camera bag weeks after the wedding.  Made me chuckle every time.
