Slow Club San Francisco

The Slow Club in San Francisco meets all of my criteria for a great restaurant experience.  It’s housed in the bottom of a cement building in a cool neighborhood.  When you enter, it’s moody and intimate, with big steel girders dividing the eating area from the bar.  It’s pretty dark inside…you feel like you are in a secret speakeasy.  The decor is minimal and stylish.  They play music that fits, you hear it but it’s not the focus.  The food is the focus, for sure.

The menu changes daily and it’s always attached to little clipboards.  The food is locally sourced and the french fries…”frites” as we called them when I lived in France, they are worth the calories.  Oh my!

The highlight of this visit was the drink “Vieux Carré”.    An old recipe from New Orleans.  Bourbon, whiskey, vermouth, benedictine and bitters. We sipped ours and dared to order another after dinner!

What an amazing meal that was! I will never ever forget the amazing candied cherry at the bottom of that Vieux Carre. It wasn’t a regular maraschino cherry, it was more delicate, a deep ruby red and looked almost weathered. Regardless, truly truly a treat!
