Uchi feast for today’s Laguna Gloria and Driskill wedding couple
You might get hungry, looking at this Uchi feast. My Laguna Gloria and Driskill wedding today is for the sweetest couple, Erin and Abe. They are fellow foodies and sake connoisseurs. About a month ago I wanted to treat them to a special dinner and I knew it had to be Uchi, the best sushi place in the whole state of Texas.
Ulterior motive: I would absorb all their sake knowledge and become a sake expert. What actually happened was I got a good buzz and learned how to drink from a wooden box, spills and all. I will hopefully remember the nuances of the sake the next time. I do know that I like it better cold, and the one called “Drunken Heart” seemed to be my favorite. Abe really liked the “Bride of the Fox”. Fun names, eh?
I also got to know Erin and Abe even better and wow, do they know how to order! They are masters of a menu, zoning in on the most unique and tasty dishes.
Last time I sat at the bar at Uchi, it was with my friend Meriko and she brought along a little notebook to write down what we were having. I could’ve used that notebook, because the chefs at Uchi are uber-creative, not to mention completely considerate of my gluten allergy. They gave me my own little bowl of tamari and made sure to point out anything that wasn’t gluten free. And, let me tell you, I didn’t feel deprived. We all ate like kings. Check it out for yourself:
